A girl from a family with magical powers goes to her sixteenth birthday party where the family is gathered only to learn that she is about to be killed; all the girls in the family are killed on their sixteenth birthdays to keep the power in the hands of the males. Her parents are willing to go along with this, but some other relatives aren't: some want to protect her; some want to use her. I thought this was a great basis for a symbolic story about the relations between the sexes, on the order of "Utena."
